Our FestEssen event will take place in Brandenburg and bring together citizens, farmers, food processors, and local decision-makers to celebrate and strengthen regional food systems. Participants will enjoy a shared meal made from local and seasonal ingredients, while engaging in discussions and creative activities that highlight the value of short supply chains, agroecology, and sustainable farming.

The event will showcase inspiring examples from Brandenburg, such as water buffalo grazing on rewetted moorlands and the revival of pseudocereals like buckwheat and millet. These stories illustrate how innovative farming and food projects can contribute to climate protection, biodiversity, and rural development.

By combining good food, storytelling, and political dialogue, the event creates a unique space for exchange, empowerment, and collective action. It will make visible how citizens and farmers can join forces to demand fair and sustainable policies – and how regional practices can contribute to a better food future across Europe.

Every year on October 13, fertilizer companies and their front groups band together to celebrate Global Fertilizer Day. Their messaging? Fertilizers feed the world!

BUT, we know that–
Chemical Fertilizers fail the world

Synthetic fertilizers poison our food system, deplete our soil, and put food prices in the hands of a few corporations.

Fertilizers poison our bodies, water, and air.

They are linked to cancer, birth defects and respiratory illness.

Fertilizers are fossil fuels in disguise. More than half of today’s fertilizers are made from them, fueling extraction and the climate crisis.

We all deserve healthy, affordable food.

Under the motto “Together, let’s hedge the future!” the International Hedgerow Congress brings together farmers, policymakers, researchers, and activists to explore the ecological, agricultural, and political potential of hedgerows in shaping resilient landscapes. The event features expert talks, panel discussions, a “Market of Opportunities”, and hedgerow-inspired cuisine, with simultaneous interpretation in English and German. A highlight will be a joint hedgerow planting, symbolising cross-border cooperation for biodiversity and climate action. The film tells the stories of the people who harvest the fruit and vegetables we enjoy every day. There are over two million migrant workers in agriculture in Europe. They are an essential part of our food system. But this work often leads them into modern slavery: unacceptable working and living conditions, pay below the minimum wage, inadequate access to healthcare and the violation of their fundamental freedoms and human rights.

Professor Anne-Christin Mittwoch, from the Chair of Civil Law, European and International Economic Law at Martin Luther University Halle (Saale), and Tim Zahn, human rights advisor on global supply chains at Oxfam, will be on the podium after the film screening to answer questions from the audience.

Advertising plays a key role in what food we buy and eat. With the environmental crisis worsening and diet-related diseases on the rise, it is unacceptable that we still allow – and even support with public funds – the advertising of foods that are proven to be harmful to human health and the environment. It is high time for systemic measures for more responsible food advertising that is more in line with our national public health and environmental goals.

Join us for an evening full of politics and food justice! We will be hearing from various voices involved in food justice about their vision for Dutch politics leading up to the national elections.

Das ist das zweite Treffen im Rahmen der Reihe “Landwirtschaft in Zeiten des erstarkenden Rechtspopulismus”. In lockerem Rahmen tauschen wir uns mit in der Landwirtschaft aktiven Menschen zu dem Thema aus.

Unsere Motivation? Wir wollen einen Raum schaffen, in dem sich in der Landwirtschaft tätige und landwirtschaftlich organisierte Menschen regelmäßig und niedrigschwellig austauschen können. Dafür erscheint uns ein Stammtisch im Online-Format sinnvoll, der in diesem Herbst regelmäßig stattfindet. Dabei gibt es jeweils einen kleinen Vortrag und/oder Praxisbeispiele und Zeit für Diskussion .

Worüber wir diskutieren wollen: Vor welchen Herausforderungen stehen wir im Umgang mit rechter Raumnahme und rechtspopulistischer Rhetorik in der Landwirtschaft? Wie umgehen mit dem Nachbarn, der immer wieder fremdenfeindliche Sprüche klopft? Was tun, wenn rechte Politiker:innen sich als die einzigen Retter der Bauern inszenieren? Welche Strategien haben für euch funktioniert, wo seid ihr ratlos?

Der nächste Stammtisch findet am 14. Oktober 2025 um 18 Uhr statt. Wir werden ein oder mehrere Beispiele aus der Praxis dazu hören, wie Betroffene auf lokaler Ebene mit Angriffen und Agitierungsversuchen der AfD umgehen.

Wir laden euch auch zu den weitere Terminen am 5. November und 4. Dezember 2025 ein.

LAFERIA “Landscape features reintroduction in intensive agricultural land” is a Horizon Europe research project aiming to identify the key factors that can promote the reintroduction of landscape features (LF), where needed, in intensive agricultural areas of Europe. LAFERIA is holding its first webinar on 14 October 2025, from 10:00 – 11:45 CET. The event will introduce LAFERIA to interested stakeholders and provide an overview of the project’s mission, as well as a look at the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the Nature Restoration Law. Examples of mapped initiatives for the reintroduction of landscape features will be featured, whilst participants are encouraged to share any other relevant initiatives they know of. The event will feature a dedicated policy session, and wrap up with an interactive exercise! The last 30 minutes of the webinar will divide participants into breakout rooms, encouraging active collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The event focuses on soil biology and regenerative organic practices, offering farmers, advisors, and researchers hands-on demonstrations and discussions on how to build living soils that support both productivity and climate resilience.

A unique element of the event is the yurt-sauna, which provides a relaxed and communal space for participants to continue conversations and exchange experiences in a culturally rooted Finnish atmosphere.

The European Foundations for Sustainable Agriculture and Food network will host “Strengthening the Network: Collaboration for Food Systems Change” on 15-16 October in Brussels, Belgium.

As European institutions struggle to accelerate the green transition and national governments fall short on policy action, the role of philanthropy extends beyond just funding. Lasting change requires active co-shaping of the space, grounded in agroecological principles and democratic participation, alongside civil society, think tanks, public institutions and the private sector. Food systems transformation is complex, spanning local actions, regional challenges and Europe-wide policy shifts. It demands not just technical solutions, but democratic processes that ensure equity, inclusion and justice.

The gathering will provide an opportunity to build stronger connections within the network, explore concrete collaborations and identify opportunities to align and amplify impact. It will also offer a chance to learn from each other and envision how the network can evolve to better support collaboration, including structures, processes and goals for 2026.

Together, we can turn shared challenges into collective, democratic action, ensuring that the transition to sustainable food systems is not only effective but also just, inclusive and rooted in participatory decision-making.

How can citizens move from consumers to co-creators of food policy? A public seminar in Brussels will discuss the role of Food Citizenship in building fairer and more sustainable EU food systems. It will explore the concept of food citizenship as a way to strengthen food justice in the European Union. While food citizenship is increasingly discussed in academia and advocacy, it remains fragmented and under-recognised in European Union (EU) policymaking. The event will present a draft framework of principles for food citizenship, aiming to contribute to a more democratic and sustainable food policy.

Join us for a day in the olive groves as we celebrate the harvest season and take action for a fairer, greener, and more resilient food system!

Our Olive Harvest Day invites everyone—families, food lovers, farmers, and activists—to connect with the land, learn about sustainable agriculture, and experience the joy of traditional harvesting methods. Together, we’ll pick olives by hand, discover how quality olive oil is made, and enjoy a farm-to-table picnic featuring local, organic delights.

We celebrate the 10th anniversary of our community garden Mingas Permadies. A place where people come together, work together, share knowlegde and ideas and experiment with regenerative agriculture methods such as Market Gardening, Agroforestry and Permaculture.
We will plant a hedge with native plants to support biodiversity. A symbol for a more sustainable way of agriculture, with nature and not against it.

Part of the agro-ecological festival Kiemkracht.

Activism in agroecology is about reclaiming the narrative that has been hijacked by the agro-industry. By questioning the dominant capitalist system, activists are creating space for small-scale farming to show how things can be done differently. In this workshop, we look back at recent farmers’ actions, such as the land action in Flanders, RéSAP in Wallonia, Code Red in Belgium and the MAB (Movimiento Agroecológico de Bolivia). Together, we reflect on how we can build a broader coalition here, which good practices can help us, and how activism can also empower the farmers’ struggle in Flanders.

Taking a different look at short chain food systems by drawing inspiration from the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The BDS movement does not only encourage people to boycott oppressive systems of trade but offers incentives to buy local products. How can short chain food initiatives move beyond mainstream narrative, like a lower footprint, to create more incentives for change in their consumption pattern?

Join us to prepare the garden after the summer break, for a new Community Gardening season! You can expect planting, seeding and general gardening followed by a vegan potluck (You are encouraged to bring Vegan snacks and drinks to share with others)!

A group of 30 Czech small-scale farmers will visit small-scale farmers in southern Italy to learn about their working conditions, fair wages, and regional support. The program will also explore how small farms ensure the sustainability of their production. Participants will discuss ways how to keep young people on small agricultural sites, and how they offer and sell their products while competing with large distributors.
Slow Food Prague will organize the event on behalf of the Association of Private Farmers of Czech Republic.

The event will be a debate on the CAP in a playful way with the interventions of farmers, activists and experts and the organization of a quizz.

We are planning to organize a meeting with an organic farmer at her farm Michrowska Piwniczka.

During the meeting, we will tour the farm and arrange refreshments at a shared table. We want to talk about organic farming, the barriers organic farmers face in their daily activities, and the areas where activists and consumers could support farmers. Up to 20 people will take part in the meeting, including representatives of the member organizations of the Living Earth Coalition, as well as invited guests. We also plan to invite representatives of local governments (it would be an informal meeting) to show them an example of a farm worth cooperating with in the organization of food supply, e.g. for local schools.

The Michrowska Piwniczka farm is a very interesting example of organic fruit production and participation in short supply chains, including cooperation with food cooperatives, as well as a place of education for children, adults, and other farmers.

We would like to record the meeting and create promotional material supporting organic farming and short supply chains for use on the Coalition’s and our members’ social media.

This event is a collaboration between Slow Food International, Impacte ASBL, and Fermenthings, made possible with the support of the Good Food Good Farming fund.

Coffee is more than a morning ritual—it is a global commodity with deep cultural roots, but also with heavy ecological and social costs. Behind each cup lies a story of colonial history, unfair labor practices, deforestation, and long transport chains that tie our habits to injustices across the globe.

At the heart of this event is the theme of food justice: the right to food, fair incomes for farmers, and access to healthy, sustainable diets. Together, through 3 different moments in the day, we will explore how our daily choices connect to these larger struggles, and how reclaiming food sovereignty in Europe can support a fairer system for people and the planet.

Film Screening: The Pickers
Presented with the mobile cinema bike Cycle Étoile, this documentary shines a light on the often-invisible struggles of seasonal and migrant workers in Europe’s food system. A powerful collective moment to reflect on what fair and just food really means.

We will gather with 25 to 30 participants, including youth, NGOs from Slovenia, and members of the interested public, at a local farm that is a strong example of sustainable and self-sufficient food production.
The location is the region of Haloze on the eastern side of Slovenia, which is one of the country’s least developed regions.
The event will highlight the importance of local food systems in the broader context of food justice, resilience, and community well-being. Through discussions, sharing experiences, and direct connection with the farm environment, participants will learn about practical approaches to local food production and reflect on how strengthening self-sufficiency can contribute to fairer and more sustainable food systems.
Discussion and opinions from participants will be encouraged and facilitated.
We will promote activity and GFGF through our online tools, social media, and the network our organisation has around Slovenia.
