We celebrate the 10th anniversary of our community garden Mingas Permadies. A place where people come together, work together, share knowlegde and ideas and experiment with regenerative agriculture methods such as Market Gardening, Agroforestry and Permaculture. We will plant a hedge with native plants to support biodiversity. A symbol for a more sustainable way of agriculture, with nature and not against it.

Advertising plays a key role in what food we buy and eat. With the environmental crisis worsening and diet-related diseases on the rise, it is unacceptable that we still allow – and even support with public funds – the advertising of foods that are proven to be harmful to human health and the environment. It is high time for systemic measures for more responsible food advertising that is more in line with our national public health and environmental goals.

The A2L Annual Assembly is a day to connect, plan, and build power within our Network! The A2L Network is a grass roots network of initiatives that facilitate access to land for agroecology and small scale farming. We’ll be digging into the challenges new farmers face and deciding on two key areas to focus on over the next two years. It’s a chance to share ideas, map out how to make change, and build a stronger movement together. Well-stewarded landscape, healthy soils, and fair food systems are the foundations of a self-reliant and attractive countryside. In an era of climate uncertainty, rural depopulation, and soil degradation, it is high time to change not only how we think about soil, but also how we manage the landscape as a whole. Built on these values, this conference brings together farmers, artisan food producers, experts, community leaders, and enthusiasts of a new agricultural paradigm.

Why do more than one billion people on our planet still suffer from hunger, while an equivalent number struggle with pathological obesity? As part of this afterwork event marking World Food Day, Benedikt Haerlin (Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft, Berlin) will present the key findings of the UN World Agriculture Report and outline possible solutions. Global food trade, agroecology, food sovereignty, and the development of technical solutions in collaboration with farmers are among the areas shaping the food systems of tomorrow. A discussion will follow the presentation.

Was macht eine Tiny Farm agrarökologisch? Dieser Frage gehen wir ganz praktisch auf einer Tiny Farm nach. Anhand konkreter Methoden wie enger Flächenplanung, permanenter Bodenbedeckung und dem Einsatz handgeführter Werkzeuge zeigen wir, wie auf kleinster Fläche gesunde Böden aufgebaut und effizient Gemüse angebaut werden kann – im Einklang mit agrarökologischen Prinzipien. Nach einer kurzen Einführung machen wir einen Rundgang über die Farm: Wir zeigen Anbauflächen, Infrastruktur und Werkzeuge im Einsatz und geben Einblicke in die Organisation des Arbeitsalltags. Anschließend gibt es die Möglichkeit, typische Market-Gardening-Werkzeuge selbst auszuprobieren – mit Fokus auf ergonomisches Arbeiten im Stehen und direkt im Beet. The SWIFT project is organising an EU policy dialogue on the integration of Gender into the CAP. We have previously organised 3 national policy dialogues in Spain, Poland and Austria with very good results. The objective was to bring together farmers, policy makers and researchers, in a safe environment to discuss gender inequalities within European agriculture and the related policies as well as recommendations to address those issues. Following those national dialogues, we published a policy brief on how to better integrate gender into the next CAP (see here: https://swiftproject.eu/2025/06/18/swifts-recommendations-toaddress-gender-inequalities-in-the-next-cap/ ). The last policy dialogue will take place in Brussels, with representatives of EU institutions, in particular the European Commission (EC) and Parliament (EP), with farmers, researchers, policy makers (both politicians and civil servants). We will start by presenting the results of the national dialogues, to highlight what are the main challenges created by gender inequalities and the recommendations proposed. In the second part of the meeting, participants will exchange in subgroups to discuss how to integrate gender into the proposal of the EC for the next CAP and how other policies can support gender equality in agriculture and rural areas. To draw attention to the classic motto of SF philosophy – from farm to table, we are organizing breakfast. This way, breakfasters, who will be SF Straupe Market visitors, farmers, and other small producers, will manifest the importance of small farmers who produce clean, healthy, and sustainable food, and how many times its flavor nuances are superior to the meat, eggs, and other products quickly grown on large farms. The table brings everyone together and has long served as a diplomatic tool for conveying ideas.

Nestled in the hills of Céret, in the Vallespir valley of French Catalonia, Le Temps Retrouvé is a biodynamic farm and vineyard run by Michaël and Céline Georget and their family. On this visit, you will discover their unique approach to farming, where vines, cereals, vegetables, fruit trees and animals coexist in harmony, following natural rhythms and ecological practices. The experience includes a guided walk through the estate, sharing insights into agroforestry, herbal treatments for the vines, animal traction, and the resilience of this polycultural farm. You will then enjoy a farm-to-table lunch prepared with their own produce, followed by a tasting of their natural wines, crafted without chemicals and with deep respect for the land. A rare opportunity to experience a living example of agroecology, biodiversity and Catalan terroir at its best.

Farm festivals aim to showcase and support the resurgent traditions and culture of the village, combined with new trends for sustainable consumption and a healthy lifestyle. Hrankoop works with small family farms, artisans and freelance artists to create a unique complementarity of three inseparable parts of quality life – clean food, artisanal products and direct access to art, which can be presented outdoors and in the informal setting of the street. The festivals have been held with the assistance of the Sofia Municipality and in partnership with many other organizations and institutions for 10 years now, and have established themselves as successful and anticipated events for the residents and guests of Sofia.

A group of 30 Czech small-scale farmers will visit small-scale farmers in southern Italy to learn about their working conditions, fair wages, and regional support. The program will also explore how small farms ensure the sustainability of their production. Participants will discuss ways how to keep young people on small agricultural sites, and how they offer and sell their products while competing with large distributors. Slow Food Prague will organize the event on behalf of the Association of Private Farmers of Czech Republic.

Our FestEssen event will take place in Brandenburg and bring together citizens, farmers, food processors, and local decision-makers to celebrate and strengthen regional food systems. Participants will enjoy a shared meal made from local and seasonal ingredients, while engaging in discussions and creative activities that highlight the value of short supply chains, agroecology, and sustainable farming. The event will showcase inspiring examples from Brandenburg, such as water buffalo grazing on rewetted moorlands and the revival of pseudocereals like buckwheat and millet. These stories illustrate how innovative farming and food projects can contribute to climate protection, biodiversity, and rural development. By combining good food, storytelling, and political dialogue, the event creates a unique space for exchange, empowerment, and collective action. It will make visible how citizens and farmers can join forces to demand fair and sustainable policies – and how regional practices can contribute to a better food future across Europe. Welcome to the second edition of the AlimenTERRE Festival! The AlimenTERRE Festival is back for its second edition, from 16 October to 16 November 2025, throughout Luxembourg. Coordinated by SOS Faim, it offers a rich programme of eight powerful documentary films, followed by debates, workshops, activities and meetings. We have selected six new films (including one for younger audiences) and one improv show for you. The screenings will be followed by a discussion or activity on the film’s theme and a moment of conviviality and sharing around local products. Through themes ranging from intensive farming to social justice, water scarcity, sustainable agriculture, health and biodiversity, the festival invites citizens, young people, institutions and businesses to reflect collectively on our relationship with food and the choices that shape our future.

An evening of cinema and discussion dedicated to those who work in the fields of Europe every day. The Food Collage is a collaborative workshop designed to raise awareness about the complexity of our food systems and their environmental, social, and health impacts. Inspired by the successful Climate Fresk method, it uses a set of illustrated cards to guide participants through the interconnected stages of food production, distribution, consumption, and waste. Working in small groups, participants collectively reconstruct the “food system puzzle,” uncovering the links between agriculture, biodiversity, climate change, nutrition, public health, and social justice. The process fosters dialogue, critical thinking, and systems-level understanding. By the end of the workshop, participants are empowered to reflect on their own food choices, discuss possible solutions, and imagine pathways toward more sustainable, fair, and resilient food systems. The Food Collage is suitable for schools, communities, companies, and institutions that want to engage in collective learning and action around food.

We will gather with 25 to 30 participants, including youth, NGOs from Slovenia, and members of the interested public, at a local farm that is a strong example of sustainable and self-sufficient food production. The location is the region of Haloze on the eastern side of Slovenia, which is one of the country’s least developed regions. The event will highlight the importance of local food systems in the broader context of food justice, resilience, and community well-being. Through discussions, sharing experiences, and direct connection with the farm environment, participants will learn about practical approaches to local food production and reflect on how strengthening self-sufficiency can contribute to fairer and more sustainable food systems. Discussion and opinions from participants will be encouraged and facilitated. We will promote activity and GFGF through our online tools, social media, and the network our organisation has around Slovenia.

How can citizens move from consumers to co-creators of food policy? A public seminar in Brussels will discuss the role of Food Citizenship in building fairer and more sustainable EU food systems. It will explore the concept of food citizenship as a way to strengthen food justice in the European Union. While food citizenship is increasingly discussed in academia and advocacy, it remains fragmented and under-recognised in European Union (EU) policymaking. The event will present a draft framework of principles for food citizenship, aiming to contribute to a more democratic and sustainable food policy. BUT, we know that– Chemical Fertilizers fail the world Synthetic fertilizers poison our food system, deplete our soil, and put food prices in the hands of a few corporations. Fertilizers poison our bodies, water, and air. They are linked to cancer, birth defects and respiratory illness. Fertilizers are fossil fuels in disguise. More than half of today’s fertilizers are made from them, fueling extraction and the climate crisis. Fertilizers drive up food prices. Controlled by a few giants, fertilizers price volatility can make food inaccessible We all deserve healthy, affordable food. Fertilizers threaten that right, while community-led solutions protect it. Solutions already exist. Agroecology and local food systems regenerate soil and feed people — not corporate profits.

The Hackathon will gather software developers engaged in the development of software for Community Cupported Agriculture (CSA). The Hackathon takes place at Kommune Niederkaufungen near Kassel, Germany, from October 31st to November 2nd. We will bring together software developers engaged in the development of tools for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) as well as active CSA members. Different approaches exist for finding the right financial contribution of each CSA member in solidarity while ensuring the necessary budget for the farm. We will develop an open-source tool to facilitate such contribution rounds among CSA members, thus making life easier for farms.

Taking a different look at short chain food systems by drawing inspiration from the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The BDS movement does not only encourage people to boycott oppressive systems of trade but offers incentives to buy local products. How can short chain food initiatives move beyond mainstream narrative, like a lower footprint, to create more incentives for change in their consumption pattern?

This event will promote food justice by bringing together policymakers, researchers, farmers, activists and others whose work is connected to food systems, to explore how we can better support local food producers and nourish communities through stronger local food economies in Ireland. We will be reaching out to local food partnerships and looking at ways that those working to tackle food poverty and provide food access are linked in with those working to build resilient local food economies to build dignified and community led approaches to food access. The Symposium will be followed by a screening of the short film ‘Farming is Medicine’, featuring physician, activist, writer and recently appointed Trinity School of Medicine Adjunct Professor of Land, Food and Medicine, Rupa Marya. This film explores the deep connections between farming, health and community. The screening will be followed by a conversation on decolonising food systems with Professor Marya and researcher Dr. Ollie Moore, and includes a relaxed buffet meal from Cornucopia.

We are planning to organize a meeting with an organic farmer at her farm Michrowska Piwniczka. During the meeting, we will tour the farm and arrange refreshments at a shared table. We want to talk about organic farming, the barriers organic farmers face in their daily activities, and the areas where activists and consumers could support farmers. Up to 20 people will take part in the meeting, including representatives of the member organizations of the Living Earth Coalition, as well as invited guests. We also plan to invite representatives of local governments (it would be an informal meeting) to show them an example of a farm worth cooperating with in the organization of food supply, e.g. for local schools. The Michrowska Piwniczka farm is a very interesting example of organic fruit production and participation in short supply chains, including cooperation with food cooperatives, as well as a place of education for children, adults, and other farmers. We would like to record the meeting and create promotional material supporting organic farming and short supply chains for use on the Coalition’s and our members’ social media.

On Thursday, 9 October 2025, the “Meng Landwirtschaft” platform, together with its 21 member organisations, presented its new appeal for a reorientation of agriculture to the responsible minister, Martine Hansen. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of willingness for dialogue and of fundamental rethinking in agricultural policy. Key challenges remain unresolved. These concern not only issues of environmental, climate, animal and nature protection, but also the stagnation of organic farming, the low level of supply of the population with healthy, sustainably organic and locally produced food, as well as the lack of future prospects for Luxembourg’s farmers. Agriculture and food production do not only concern those working in the agricultural sector – they concern all of us. In this sense, Meng Landwirtschaft called on the Minister of Agriculture to initiate a process similar to the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of European Agriculture, in order to develop, together with all stakeholders, pathways towards a sustainable agricultural future for Luxembourg. Unfortunately, the Minister refused to do so and referred Meng Landwirtschaft to the Chamber of Agriculture instead. For Meng Landwirtschaft, the Minister is thus missing an important opportunity to play her key role as a mediator between the various stakeholders in the interest of a sustainable agricultural future.

In light of the Danish EU presidency, Green Transition Denmark/Rådet for Grøn Omstilling is hosting a conference at the Parliament in Copenhagen in collaboration with Pesticide Action Network Europe and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation that will focus on pesticide reductions. At the conference, we will explore Denmark’s implementation of the EU Directive on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides, the practical aspects of pesticide reduction and water environment protection, available alternatives, and the effects of pesticides on public health and biodiversity. LAFERIA “Landscape features reintroduction in intensive agricultural land” is a Horizon Europe research project aiming to identify the key factors that can promote the reintroduction of landscape features (LF), where needed, in intensive agricultural areas of Europe. LAFERIA is holding its first webinar on 14 October 2025, from 10:00 – 11:45 CET. The event will introduce LAFERIA to interested stakeholders and provide an overview of the project’s mission, as well as a look at the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the Nature Restoration Law. Examples of mapped initiatives for the reintroduction of landscape features will be featured, whilst participants are encouraged to share any other relevant initiatives they know of. The event will feature a dedicated policy session, and wrap up with an interactive exercise! Le film documente l’expérience de six travailleur·euses dans quatre pays européens producteurs de fruits et légumes : les oranges en Italie, les myrtilles au Portugal, les fraises en Espagne et les olives en Grèce. Ce que révèle ce film donne un goût amer à nos fruits et légumes, produits dans un système marqué par l’exploitation à tous les niveaux. Cette projection sera l’occasion de discuter avec un membre de la coopérative SOS Rosarno, une coopérative en Calabre dont une partie de la production est acheminée en Suisse par Solrosa.

Part of the agro-ecological festival Kiemkracht. Activism in agroecology is about reclaiming the narrative that has been hijacked by the agro-industry. By questioning the dominant capitalist system, activists are creating space for small-scale farming to show how things can be done differently. In this workshop, we look back at recent farmers’ actions, such as the land action in Flanders, RéSAP in Wallonia, Code Red in Belgium and the MAB (Movimiento Agroecológico de Bolivia). Together, we reflect on how we can build a broader coalition here, which good practices can help us, and how activism can also empower the farmers’ struggle in Flanders.
